The PPE MA program invites applications from UCI students, especially those majoring in Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, or International Studies. The normal course of study involves the successful completion of undergraduate requirements (see our course requirements) before graduation, together with one year of graduate study at UCI.

Students are asked to apply one year prior to their expected date of graduation.  For most students this will be in their third year.  The application deadline is April 15. Students are notified about admissions decisions by mid-May. Students who miss the normal deadline may contact the program director and ask to be put on a waitlist should a spot in the program open up.

Applications should be sent to ppe@uci.edu and should include:

  • A brief cover letter
  • A statement of purpose (1-2 pages) explaining your background, your career goals, and what you hope to get out of an education in PPE
  • Official transcripts, including GPA
  • One letter of recommendation from a UCI faculty member, preferably in Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, or Global and International Studies

While we cannot accept student from outside UCI, transfer students are very welcome to apply.  All courses that have been transferred to UCI for credit may count towards undergraduate PPE requirements.  Late transfers are welcome to include a letter of recommendation from an instructor at a previous institution as well.

For questions, please contact Kyle Stanford, PPE Program Director, at: stanford@uci.edu.
